The only teams currently in the EPL that have a soccer ball or anything that could tip off an unknowing person that it is indeed a soccer club (aside from an FC designation or the words Football Club, are: Birmingham, United, and Spurs.
there is nothing in Rangers logo, it's just an RFC overlay, Celtic is just a clover and a wordmark around it...Real Madrid, a circle with a crown and word mark..
Were you expecting another cartoon soccerball with a comet tail and Whitecaps written underneath in a comic book font?
You are comparing this with logo's with the likes of clubs the stature of Real Madrid, Celtic, and Rangers?
I'm not a fan. Sorry to disappoint you, Johnny. I don't like it. In my opinion, it's not good enough.
I agree with that other post...the first thing I thought of when I saw the new logo was "Umbro"....Funny to hear that Adidas will be the sponsor. I do not like the new logo at all....I hear the shirt sponsor is "Bell", which is also a miss, in my opinion, although obvioulsy money talks.
In my opinion, they should have scrapped the name "Whitecaps" altogether. Vancouver FC should have been the new name because the Whitecaps does not really strike a chord with the younger and hipper generation (i.e. their target market). The real Whitecap memories are linked to the older folks in the soccer community and a few other individuals that like to cling to that name and those memories in order to protect their jobs. We had a real opportunity to start with something fresh and exciting in this market and I thinked they dropped the ball.
The stadium situation is also a shambles, compared to Toronto FC. Empire Field will be a nice novelty that will quickly wear off when people realize they are using port-o-potties and access to beer and food is limited. It is a crying shame that they could not build the new soccer specific stadium downtown with private money.
I am happy the MLS is coming to Vancouver next year but I am disappointed with a few things.

Again, for everyone not up on the facts, they will only be playing a small handful of games at Empire before moving into the newly completed BC Place...
It IS a crying shame that kerfoot has been blocked at every turn to build a stadium with private money, agreed wholeheartedly there reedie.
We have Steve Nash as an owner, not Manute Bol or Yao Ming, so I can't see an African or Asian player coming in as DP.
Not currently Manute Bol deserves more recognition for his work in Sudan - KansasCity.comBy the way, Manute Bol would make a great target man.
Yes, I know Empire Field will only be temporary and, at the outset, I think it will be a nice change until BC Place is ready. However, I don't like BC Place as the permanent long-term home of the Whitecaps or the Lions...I understand it will be renovated and there will be improvements but something about "lipstick on a pig" rings true on this one. At the end of the day, I think our "soccer specific stadium" will pale in comparison to Toronto, Seattle and Montreal, for that matter. Having been to a game in Toronto, I can tell you I was blown away by the stadium and atmosphere and I just can't see them accomplishing this in Vancouver under the current plan.
I am not being anti-Whitecap or anti-MLS because I am looking forward to 2011...I just think the other teams are doing things properly and setting the bar very high for "re-introducing" soccer to their cities...they have all come up with fresh and exciting new brands for the younger generation to follow...they have made it trendy to be soccer fans....we seem to be hanging on to the past with our stadiums, team name, and logo. It will be very interesting to see who we sign as our "franchise player"...my guess is that the Whitecaps will go back to their traditional source of impact players and go to England for someone. I would prefer to see something fresh like an exciting African or Asian player come in here.
My 2 cents
