I see that Adidas is now the kit supplier (from the scarf in the pics). The new logo looks a bit like the Umbro logo but turned on it's side, lol.

The only teams currently in the EPL that have a soccer ball or anything that could tip off an unknowing person that it is indeed a soccer club (aside from an FC designation or the words Football Club, are: Birmingham, United, and Spurs.

there is nothing in Rangers logo, it's just an RFC overlay, Celtic is just a clover and a wordmark around it...Real Madrid, a circle with a crown and word mark..

Were you expecting another cartoon soccerball with a comet tail and Whitecaps written underneath in a comic book font? :p

You are comparing this with logo's with the likes of clubs the stature of Real Madrid, Celtic, and Rangers?

I'm not a fan. Sorry to disappoint you, Johnny. I don't like it. In my opinion, it's not good enough.

After looking a little closer, Celtic has a clover in a circle - circle representing a ball. The circle in Real Madrid is also represented a ball as with Inter and AC Milan. FC Barca have a soccer ball and Chelsea also has soccer balls on their crest. Rangers crest has a lion in a soccer ball.

I will say, the more I see it, the less I dislike it.

Maybe it's because they're called Whitecaps and there is no whitecaps in it. Much the way I dislike the Orca on the Canucks jersey. What does an Orca have to do with hockey or a Canuck?

Has anyone seen the new Vancouver Parks logo?
Very close.

I do like it. I'm sure when Adidas is done with it it will look very nice.

I agree with that other post...the first thing I thought of when I saw the new logo was "Umbro"....Funny to hear that Adidas will be the sponsor. I do not like the new logo at all....I hear the shirt sponsor is "Bell", which is also a miss, in my opinion, although obvioulsy money talks.

In my opinion, they should have scrapped the name "Whitecaps" altogether. Vancouver FC should have been the new name because the Whitecaps does not really strike a chord with the younger and hipper generation (i.e. their target market). The real Whitecap memories are linked to the older folks in the soccer community and a few other individuals that like to cling to that name and those memories in order to protect their jobs. We had a real opportunity to start with something fresh and exciting in this market and I thinked they dropped the ball.

The stadium situation is also a shambles, compared to Toronto FC. Empire Field will be a nice novelty that will quickly wear off when people realize they are using port-o-potties and access to beer and food is limited. It is a crying shame that they could not build the new soccer specific stadium downtown with private money.

I am happy the MLS is coming to Vancouver next year but I am disappointed with a few things.

Again, for everyone not up on the facts, they will only be playing a small handful of games at Empire before moving into the newly completed BC Place...

It IS a crying shame that kerfoot has been blocked at every turn to build a stadium with private money, agreed wholeheartedly there reedie.

Agreed with most of your points Reedie. I think the temporary stadium will be a breath of fresh air compared to Swangard. Intimate soccer experience.

As for the logo I don't like it either. I was just at the Sounders game this past weekend and was blown away again at the support and atmosphere at their games. From Pioneer square walking up to the stadium it is full on with almost every single person ( mostly young ) wearing a Sounders jersey. 75 percent stand the whole game and there is a great relationship between the brand and the support. Will people here buy in to that extent? Do we have the right pieces in place to replicate or come close to their model?

Yes, I know Empire Field will only be temporary and, at the outset, I think it will be a nice change until BC Place is ready. However, I don't like BC Place as the permanent long-term home of the Whitecaps or the Lions...I understand it will be renovated and there will be improvements but something about "lipstick on a pig" rings true on this one. At the end of the day, I think our "soccer specific stadium" will pale in comparison to Toronto, Seattle and Montreal, for that matter. Having been to a game in Toronto, I can tell you I was blown away by the stadium and atmosphere and I just can't see them accomplishing this in Vancouver under the current plan.

I am not being anti-Whitecap or anti-MLS because I am looking forward to 2011...I just think the other teams are doing things properly and setting the bar very high for "re-introducing" soccer to their cities...they have all come up with fresh and exciting new brands for the younger generation to follow...they have made it trendy to be soccer fans....we seem to be hanging on to the past with our stadiums, team name, and logo. It will be very interesting to see who we sign as our "franchise player"...my guess is that the Whitecaps will go back to their traditional source of impact players and go to England for someone. I would prefer to see something fresh like an exciting African or Asian player come in here.

My 2 cents

We have Steve Nash as an owner, not Manute Bol or Yao Ming, so I can't see an African or Asian player coming in as DP.

Yes, we do have a great ownership group, which is why I'm surprised at some of the decisions to date...again, just my opinion.

By the way, Manute Bol would make a great target man.

I'll take issue with a few things. I'm not trying to sound smarter than you, or one up you.. just a friendly debate pointing out some problems.
1. You note Seattle as being fresh and new. They used the same name they have dating back to the NASL. Are they just fresh and new because of their electric neon colours? They have traditionally (NASL, A League, etc) drawn less fans than WFC have.. and are now screaming in attendance and rabid support for Seattle Sounders FC. Why do people feel that WFC won't be able to replicate? There is also a symmetry between the two playing in huge stadiums that get a little alteration to become Soccer Specific in layout. (ie tarping upper stands vs us havinng the roof collapse to fill the void)
2. As far as Stadiums, Stade Saputo in Montreal is, by all accounts, a dump. Very stripped down and nothing really special.. Save Real Grass. BMO park is a gem. Also the supporter culture there has been second to none in Canadian soccer to date, but it's a recent development. The support for the Blizzard and Lynx was utter shite compared to what the sixers/caps have done over the years, and in the burbs at Swangard at that.
3. Lipstick on a pig. I have seen the models and renderings of the new BC Place stadium. This project is anything but lipstick on a pig. Inside the park we are told it is pretty much a rip off of the Commerzbank Arena, the home of Eintracht Frankurt in Germany. The took a very similar structure to BC Place and put in a retractable roof. Also a whole new complex will be built attached to BC Place with the Casino etc. I have a feeling that people that have left Vancouver will return to assume that BC Place was demolished and a new complex took its spot.

Check out their site...

as far as lineup, there are a lot of current players that will make the jump, sadly I don't see any Canadians in that group as regular players. Nash, Bellisomo, Williams, and Bonsu might be the only guys making the jump, and likely they will be squad players. They have a quota of Canadian players they need to fill, so look for Canadians abroad or in MLS or currently unattached to clubs that will likely be acquired or signed such as Kevin Hamse, Olivier Occean, Ali Gerba, Issey and Paris Nakajima-Farran, Rob Friend, Paul Stalteri, Richard Hastings, Terry Dunfield, Ante Jazic, Josh Simpson, Daniel Imhoff, Mike Klukowski.

as far as a DP, they are entitled to have a few spots, whether or not they use them will remain to be seen. With this ownership group and the money behind them, I doubt they will screw around. Players that have been rumoured to be off for MLS (not necessarily Vancouver)include
Clarence Seedorf, Robert Pires, Cannavaro, Ronaldinho, Del Piero, Ali Karimi, Ariel Ortega, Trezeguet, Roberto Carlos, JS Veron, Riquelme, Camoranesi, etc.

Thierry Henry is on his way to New York Red Bulls next year, so it's not too bad a shout to say that others will follow.

My $0.02. ;)

I like the logo. It is clean, neat, and simple.

I think Adidas will do a tremendous job with the clothing as they have done in Seattle.

If you have not experienced a game there, you must do so. I am not a fan of the standing during the games. I am there to watch the game and cheer when appropriate. I find it annoying at Seahawks games too.

I have been to Premiership games, Eredivisie and world cup qualifying games in Europe. Football fans do not stand for 90 minutes.

I was at the game tonight. Winger has got to go. An active mascot during the game is very bush league. West Ham has a mascot. He wanders around before the game and then fcuk's off when the game is on.

A soccer specific stadium is a must. Turf sucks, no matter what you do with it. (Sorry Hose). Row 9 at centre field at Philips Stadion Einhoven with the band in the background is like going to football church. Did the same at West Ham and Chelsea in October 2009. No bullshit, terrific football, knowledgeable supporters.

I am a little disappointed with the Eastern Canadian sponsor like Bell. Telus would have been better. How about a world brand like Blackberry (Canadian) or EA Sports (strong Burnaby presence). Why not go all out and get Apple to rival Microsoft in Seattle?

^ It's O-KAY. I wish they had kept a bit of the old personally.

I think Adidas will do a tremendous job with the clothing as they have done in Seattle.
^ A lot of people hate the NEON and bright green.

I was at the game tonight. Winger has got to go.
^ THE KIDS! WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN!

A soccer specific stadium is a must.
^ Never going to happen in this city, from the looks of it. How long has it been?

I am a little disappointed with the Eastern Canadian sponsor like Bell.
^ I am surprised, particularly since I associate that company more with Toronto. Then again, they're trying to break into this market so for their perspective it makes sense.

Feel for football? It's a logo that is meant to represent the city and name. Should they be "Original" and have a soccer ball in there somehow?

What I've found is, like any logo release, reaction is accross the board. That's to be expected.

Personally, I like it...fresh, clean, and captures the essence of the mountain and water. Next time driving up Sea-to-Sky on a sunny, windy day, look to your left at the Ocean side in the stretch just past Lion's Bay. You see mountain peaks w/ snow caps, and you'll see choppy waves w/ white caps.
