I do see your point. The teams at the bottom of the table are tragic and I'm sure they are their to have a kick around and good on em, it's not their fault the way it's set up. Still early in the year though lots of things can change.

Actually some of them do take this seriously; they just don't have the right personnel to do what they want to do. We're trying to build a team as part of a club system, so mileage varies with what you get for players.

From VMSL Rules and Regulations http://vmslsoccer.com/rules-regulations/

Section 6 – Promotion and Relegation and Vacancies

6.1. At the end of each season, the VMSL shall promote and relegate teams as follows;
(a) The two (2) last place teams in the Premier Division will be relegated to Division 1.
(b) The first and second place teams in Division 1 will be promoted to the Premier Division.
(c) The last two (2) teams in Division 1 will be relegated to Division 2.
(d) The winner of each of the Division 2 sections will be promoted to Division 1.
(e) Three (3) teams from Division two (2) will be relegated to Division 3 as follow,
i- The last place team in each the Division 2 group will be relegated to Division 3.
ii- A one game playoff- on a neutral ground- shall take place between the two (2) penultimate teams in each of the two Division two (2) groups . In case of a tie, e extra time periods will be played, followed by penalty kicks if needed. The losing team will then be relegated to Division three (3)
(f) Three (3) teams from Division three (3) shall be promoted to Division 2. The procedure to identify the teams will vary, depending on the number of groups in
Division three (3).
(g) In all of the above cases, the placement of promoted or relegated teams will be decided by a random draw.

6.2. In the event of two teams having the same number of points at the end of the league schedule, and providing that this situation affects the promotion or relegation of teams, a one game playoff on a neutral ground shall take place with extra time periods.
If the teams are still tied after extra time, a penalty kick series will be used to decide the winner. Where three or more teams are affected, a round-robin tournament among the tied teams will take place and the tie breaking formula outlined in Section 5.3 of the Rules and Regulations will be used.

6.3. Vacancies in any Division, except the ones covered by Section 6.1 shall be filled as follows,

6.4. Realignment within each Division.
The final League standings of the previous playing season shall apply for the following:
(a) Teams finishing in the third, fourth and fifth place positions in each divisional section shall move laterally to the next section in their
respective divisions as follows:
Division 2 “A”: third, fourth, and fifth place teams to Division 2 “B”.
Division 2 “B”: third, fourth, and fifth place teams to Division 2 “C”.
Division 2 “C”: third, fourth, and fifth place teams to Division 2 “A”
Division 3 “A”: third, fourth, and fifth place teams to Division 3 “B”
Division 3 “B”: third, fourth, and fifth place teams to Division 3 “A”
(b) Where two or more teams are tied in points standing, the formula outlined in section 4.3 shall apply.

Rick you are totally bang on. I said long time ago. Go all the way down to div six. Reason is kids from Silver one soccer could start div five or div six and have fun. Three groups just does not work. Two groups does, top point team in each group moves up. Bottom two drop. Also to develop young refs would be way easier in div five. As you can see Caps have one Canadian kid playing. That alone tells you that we are at fault in our kids development.
Eight team premier league is needed, not twelve teams. Soccer level is not high enough.

Man, you've got a crystal ball. We had a good session at the pub after Tuesday night training!

Boners played Arya FC at Sutherland on Sunday. They have a lot of older guys, but many of those guys have a surprisingly good touch . We had nearly all the play but Arya played a pretty effective trap and, like the young Inzaghi, our main striker gave a good impression of someone who was born in an offside position. Got 2, should have had 5.

They were actually quite a bit better and fitter than I thought they'd be, but they aren't a match for younger teams. Having said that, I don't think the young island boys are playing all that well yet, despite having won a few games. There are some good tests ahead beginning with PCOV this weekend. We had a good rivalry with West Van in the Sportsmen's league last summer so that one will be hard fought and tight. It will take some doing to get ready for Squamish.

Celtic 0 Ante-Up 3. Game was much tighter than the scoreline indicated, but if you don't score, you don't win. Lost our top goal scorer to a broken nose compliments of their defender trying to clear the ball with a high foot and giving Jake a couple of nostrils full of Umbro. This somehow eluded Milad (along with a lot of other hijinks and shenanigans). On to PCOV Benfica next...

Bones 0, PCOV Europa 0 in last week's match. We had half the team away and played the match with 10 guys. They had a full side with subs.

PCOV give you the impression of a team that has been together for a while and were once pretty good, but as the guys have aged they are fading a bit. They still have some talent, defended well and moved the ball well at times. Both teams had chances and, once more, the game could have gone either way, although how our usually reliable striker missed the open net late in the game is a complete mystery. I think it was the size of his hangover.

West Coast Celt appear to be on a roll and I was surprised to see West Van lose to Norwest. At the moment it still looks like div. 3 C is Squamish and everybody else.

Celtic 1 Benfica 1. Definitely not the Champions League. Chances both ways but neither team particularly dangerous. A fair result. Better game than I was expecting given the number of players away for turkey. America next week for a truer test of mettle, especially since it follows the old bhoys' game at the same park.

3A similar to 3C with Twin Arrows at 6/0/0 like Squamish. 3B may be a bit tighter as Serbia dropped a tie with the Lions.

Bowen 3, Norwest United 2 last weekend. Exciting match that could have gone to either team, with the Boners scoring late to win it.

Norwest have great team spirit, communicate well and work hard. They are going to move up the standings as the season progresses.

With the exception of the bottom couple of teams, and Squamish at the top, the rest of the teams in Div. 3 C look to be pretty well matched. There should be some very close, competitive, games coming up as the season unfolds. A couple of our new guys, who have played on Div. 1 and 2 teams in the past, have commented how surprised they've been at the quality of play in many of the games.

America 8 Celtic 1.

Lots of talent and good pace from their side. Lacking in class, however. When you're up 6-0 do you need to send your keeper up to take a peno and then do the shoe shine shite? Sticks in the craw, and will be remembered.

Good numbers but a couple of significant injuries kept stronger players off the pitch for us. Off to Surrey vs. Lions next weekend for a late 4 pm start.

Not much of a match at all, according to the Most Excellent Site. Who really needs to win any game 14-0? Your callups to the national team are in the mail, boys...

Celtic 4 Lions 4 in a real defensive struggle in Newton. They got a lucky break from a ball-to-hand in our box that was given as a penalty to tie it up.

In deed i was referring to the boners trip up north to the friendly confines of Brennan park. As for the 14-0 "trace". The other team had 7 players, which 1 was there coach who stood in the center circle and talked to the ref most the game. We played them 7 v 7 most on the game. Not like it was fun for us either. Technically it was only 11-0 tho thanks trace. 3 own goals didn't help the score line.
