RickG, this is a Bonefish formula (or more accurately the results of it. Essentially it's a system that creates a power rankings table for a league where teams don't get to play against every other team (like the VMSL). It uses the league standings and a bit of spreadsheet math to create something like this, only better looking:

Team G W T L F A Pts GD Rank Power
Squamish FC 16 14 2 0 83 8 44 75 1 217.5
Astro FC A 16 13 2 1 66 14 41 52 1 181
America FC 15 12 0 3 59 14 36 45 1 163.5
FC Serbia 15 11 2 2 54 15 35 39 2 151
Twin Arrows FC 16 13 0 3 55 25 39 30 2 150.5
Bby. Metro Athletic 16 11 1 4 60 23 34 37 3 150
Cliff Sr. Cobra 16 11 3 2 51 19 36 32 3 142.5
Bowen Island FC 16 11 2 3 41 14 35 27 2 132.5

Pretty interesting Trece and fun to read. I suspect things will change slightly as a result of the last couple of make up games, but not that much.
Really though, it seems pretty clear that Squamish and Astros should go up. A third team (and it should be 4!) is really hard to pick in any way that is really fair.
I think Ruben would almost have to poll the teams in your bonefish top 10 to see who actually has an interest in going up--then have a play down. Otherwise it seems a bit too arbitrary.
I'd like to see either America, or Serbia or Twin Arrows, for example, play West Coast Celts from our group, or even Boners, just to get a sense of the quality of play in the different divisions. That would be fun and certainly more revealing than a spreadsheet.

Trace has done well this year with his side. You might see them next year in top three. I took in tonight's game Bosnia vs ?, Bosnia sure has improved
The other team is young ad it has long ways to go. The score was five one Bosnia. Nice to see lots of youth in div three, normally you see older guys chip shutting each other.

America 3 Celtic 2.

Because of the oddball 5 pm Sunday start, no keeper (and some other bodies)for us, but they also had 5 guys out of their lineup with accumulated yellows, so both rosters were a bit smaller than they would have been otherwise. No SuperMario meant we had to deputize a defender, but he filled in more than admirably. The 1-nill lead we jumped out to meant that the usual smack from their bench turned into panicky screams pretty quickly; that lasted until they managed to get it back and then go one up on us. Have to laugh though because every goal they score means they've won the world cup.

They got one more back, and then we lost a player to his 2nd yellow of the game. Credit to the bhoys however as they kept pressing and got a 2nd back despite being short. Final 3-2, but with us definitely having more dangerous chances (the tying goal was swatted away by their keeper while flat on his back), and definitely more of the ball in their end for the last 15 minutes.

Entertaining to watch, with decent ball movement both ways and good chances. Yurick kept a lid on the majority of their histrionics, but there were still a lot of attempts to draw fouls from flipping, flopping, creative time-wasting, and the snipers in the trees. Best sniper moment was their #11 up front who apparently got shot in our box, and took at least a couple of minutes to get up. Yurick didn't buy the hand-wringing for a penalty, and appropriately sent him off the field to recover, where of course, he was miraculously healed. He then began screaming demanding to be let back onto the field. Yurick's response: "30 seconds ago you were dead." :D

Best part of this is that the Bhoys have now realized that they can be competitive with any team in the group - wishing this had come a bit sooner in the season, but it could make a Cup run possible. Hey, I'm cautiously optimistic...

When is the play off for promotion. Trace only two go up this year. Is that for sure.... I will tell you AFC Warriors need to change the name to nice guys.
It does take some kind of hart to go the year with out a win. VMSL is no joke league. All the lower level clubs went to Burnaby soccer just to win few games.

Hey Trece, nice win in the first round of cup play for the bhoys I see.

Boners off to a decent start too with a win over PCOV Europa 6-2. We started with 10 and went to 11 about 20 mins in, then actually got a freaking sub at halftime. Big news in Snug Cove when that happens. Europa had a good size squad but I could tell they were missing a couple of their best defenders. In some ways the score doesn't do justice to the game. PCOV played OK at times, and they have some good players, but often they played a suicidally high line against the formation we were using and pretty much every ball over the top created a scoring opportunity. It didn't help that the guy they had in net got injured and had to come out in the second half, leading to a field player stepping in who obviously wasn't a regular keeper. We'll have our work cut out for us against Surrey B. Some interesting results in the opening round.

Hi Rick. Yeah, it was nice to be able to take a win away from @SmartCoach and his club. Rino's weren't a bad side - my understanding is that they are a CAT side for their Div 1 team - but they have a couple of guys who are still a bit unclear on the difference between the ball (typically round and mostly white) and ankles (normally with feet and legs attached and definitely not round). Good even game in terms of play with the difference mostly being our sweeper, Danny. He was able to clean up everything they threw at us, so SuperMario didn't have to see too much action. We were able to finish our chances a bit better, with Junior getting on the end of a cross into their box a hair before their keeper, and then Guster getting set on his arse one too many times for the ref's liking for a 2nd half pk. 2-0 final.

Next week will be a tough draw against Guildford in Round 2 for us. The bhoys need to get their passports sorted to go out to Newton.;)
