for you BJB

Call it a comeback
Kostelic recovered from a severe knee injury to win the 2001 overall World Cup title. Her remarkable season included victories in eight consecutive slalom events en route to the World Cup slalom title. However, Kostelic required three knee surgeries in the off-season - in March, May, and September of 2001. All three of the surgeries to her left knee involved her meniscus and were prompted by continuous pain. For Kostelic, knee surgery seems to be a precursor to greatness. She had missed the second half of the 1999-2000 World Cup season after tearing four ligaments in her right knee during downhill training in St. Moritz, Switzerland, on December 16, 1999. At the time, she was the overall World Cup points leader and says, "I never thought about not skiing again, but it was incredible that I could win again so soon." During her relatively quick rehabilitation - she was back on skis two months after surgery - Kostelic tried several different sports to recuperate the strength in her knee, including long-distance running, biking and gymnastics. Kostelic even traveled to the Adriatic Sea to do some free diving without oxygen to depths of 30 meters (approximately 100 feet), which, according to one of her associates, "helps you not to panic."

Go the Canadian mens hockey team! I'll be rooting for you!

Are you trying to say that they gave her surgery in the wrong place:confused:

Capt'n Crunch, does it really matter when the helmet is on? Because a helmet can be easily replaced by a paper bag:rolleyes:

Speaking of paper, I don't think female goats are known for their looks:eek:

Bitter end to a great show (drugs and such)...

Okay, everyone loves the hype of these major sporting events, but WhyTF do some of these athletes persist on cheating their way through.

Doesn't the "Athlete's Oath" mean a thing to anyone:mad:

Is it the pressure of the Dignitaries to perform, or is it the 'people' of the country that have the high expectations?

Hell, I know people who have used drugs, but not to enhance their performance (athletically)

+SCisjustbitternowthatthegamesareover:mad:
why can't we just get through one OLYMPIC games without drugs or having someone get caught

Speaking of cheating......

Does this make any fcuking sense? They take her gold medal away but let her keep the other two medals that she earned while cheating. Unless of course, she started taking the banned substances before the last event, then it would be okay.

Fcuking cheating Russians. The bastards and cnuts should be banned from the next Olympics, especially the hockey team for not showing up to receive their medals.

Lazutina, 36, was forced to give up her victory in Sunday's 30-kilometer classical race and her record-tying 10th Olympic medal. She was allowed to keep the two silver medals she won in the 15K freestyle and the 10K combined event.

BTW, that Croatian brings a whole new meaning to a bad 'helmet'.

unfair to say the least

"WORD" to the helmet comment:rolleyes:

What about the athlete(s) that have had their medals stripped at the present moment and at the same time previous years too? How does one prove it?SC can't remember their names b/c it isn't important

There is a certain greed when it comes to this stuff... It shouldn't be 'how many', or 'how many more' to come. It should be all about the appreciation of the talent, or lack there of:mad:

yours in frustration of sport and the games,

A HOCKEY POEM

It was a 5-2 loss that started the bleeding
A loss to Mats and his country of Sweden
Next up, it's easy - but just a 3-2 win
By a bunch of young fellas from united Berlin
They can't hit the net, they can't even pass it
There's no chance in the world they're gonna beat Hasek
It's the bloody big ice, it's a number of things
They don't want it as much, they've got their cup rings
But a 3-3 tie, with a late goal you would like
Scored by none other than Joe Nieuwendyk
The one that they thought was too slow and too old
Has not given up his quest for a hockey gold.
Then things started changing, all for the best
They beat Finland, now lets take on the rest.
It was Sweden next, they'd better get loose
But the Swedes were beaten by who... Belarus!
And then the ladies from out of the blue
Against the favored Americans, knew what to do
The Yanks threw our flag on the floor, they were told
So they captured our hearts and captured the gold
Then suddenly the Great one, our hero of youth
Told the hockey world the absolute truth
He said they don't like us, they want us to lose
We need to get meaner and inflict the odd bruise
So a North American Final, us and the States
This time they were ready, they laced up their skates
This game was about skill, speed, and the odd chance
It would not be decided by a dumb judge from France
The yanks scored first, we sucked in our chest
But our boys came out and they played their best
Sakic, Lindros, Iginla, Lemeiux
And Gold is ours... Canada 5, Yanks 2
Despite the bad press and media opinions
We danced in the street like crazed Palestinians
From Victoria to St. John's we screamed and we shouted
Like Don Cherry predicted, the Yanks... they were routed
When we play hockey there is no English or French
There is no division among us; it's just the guys on the bench
They played the game for our Country, they played it true
And on behalf of the Country I say thank you.
For this game is now ours, there is no longer a debate
About the lack of finesse or the way that we skate
This nation of Canada has gotta' lot of class
But if you wanna' play hockey ... we'll kick your ass!

Brilliant

I came accross this Irish Blessing, that captures my feelings for Canada:

She is a rich and rare land,
Oh, she's a fresh and fair land,
She is a dear and rare land,
This native land of mine.
