bailed on the art show and any potential awkwardness therein...

RT wasn't the problem today. Didn't really add anything, didn't hurt them... in fact, he made a great read to notice Ghazal leaving his mark on the 2nd goal, and, had he gone goal side of the goalscorer, might have managed to prevent the death blow. The goal is on Ghazal, not him.

At some point when you give up this many goals at the death, you have to concede that you're team just isn't good enough. That's where the Caps are at. Next year with no Davies will be... interesting...

Hopefully on exhibition was RT's first ever yellow for accidentally getting stuck into a tackle...

But seriously?? An art exhibit after a Caps game?

Garbage.

Marinovic didn't do the business yesterday and looked weak on both goals.

Should have come off his line way sooner on the first and either easily nab it or crush whoever dared to get to it before him.
That is Vampire material.
It was inside three yards for fcuk's sakes.

Second goal, maybe not as bad, but this time caught doing completely the opposite and coming out too hard where someone gets to that flick in really not all that dangerous a position IMHO, and bam is caught in no man's land to even remotely have a chance to get to the back stick after.
Not as bad as I said, maybe I'm too harsh, but it's your keeper who should set the tone on those set pieces in both leadership and performance and he did neither.

About right, and like last week, what you see is what you get in RT. He's basically playing as well as he's ever played, but he's still not one of the better starting CMs in the league. Bottom 3rd at best, and that's not what we need as a starter. Fine as a fill-in guys when you need to rotate guys in/out, but not as your key CM. Our CMF has not been the same since we let Koffie go, and losing Laba makes it worse. The plonkers we signed this year have been a joke, and Robo is showing his frustration by benching them. Good. Too bad he loaned out Davie Norman jr. instead of blooding him this year in MLS and getting on giving him a chance, cause I think he'll be better than Ghazal.

Bang on about conceding goals, and RF is also bang on, for his size, Marinovic needs to own that box. Early on the match he failed to go through their 5'7" striker on a free 50/50 ball at the top of the box. Striker beat him in the air, poked the ball past, and if not for Henry anticipating the screw up and sweeping in, it would have been another early embarrassing goal.

Garbage is right.

LOL, awesome. Again, give me Davie Norman, and his sharp elbows, studs up, tackle hard and walk-away style anyday. Kid could be a beast for the Caps in the middle.

Also, a public appearance AFTER a match? I thought the reason Shea didn't play was he just had another kid? But he was OK to do a fcuking art exhibit? Has the staff gone coo-coo? What exactly is priority here, art or play? Shea, for all his flakiness, is someone that can come in w/ 20 left and bring something different, and get you that 2-1 goal. WTF.

Finally agree with RF on something :D

I just wonder if Marinovic still has his injuries in his head. He's okay going up or stretching out when there's no challenge, but he seems to have a glass wall keeping him stuck on his line if there's any traffic in front of him.

Caps had some great spells of possession and I thought the better team. RT was a work horse in the middle. Always getting back in position when we lost the ball. I think he did quite well. As well as he talks tons and seems to organize us. You can’t teach that. And perhaps with his voice and work ethic alone he is getting the nod over the others.
Our front 4 need to create more. Reyna was quiet as ever and Techera really did nothing.
If it wasn’t for Davies ripping up his line, we would have had nothing going forward.

I didn’t mind the move to put Davies left back. It made us more offensive as a team and it got us the tieing goal. When we are on the ball it had Reyna pushing more inside to let Davies be the true winger on the left. And it worked.

Yes he was caught up Field at times but that is the trade off with an offensive wing back like that.
Agreed our goalie should have done better on the first goal for sure.
Again, Techera is a great sub but not a starting winger in this league. Against some teams he has no impact on the game. And with his height he gives us nothing for power or strength.

Again, it’s not on Robbo. We had a big spell in the first half where we were all over them. He is putting his best guys out there and they are not gettjng the job done. You need the players to perform to get results.

Ask any manager in Europe. All these top managers that we all rate, go shopping for the best players in the world. Look at Conte last year when they sold Matic and ownership didn’t give him a budget to replace him. Look at Mourinho knowing he needed a CB and didn’t get it.
I’m sure Robbo knows where the holes are and would love to spend some money on some world class talent, but simply can not.
There is not much more to squeeze out of this group. How can we expect to win with such a low budget team? And we put it on the coach?

They need to spend some money and show the fans they are serious about winning. It’s ownership. Not the coaching.com

Lion...although yesterday in isolation the coach could do little, if you look back, a lot falls on him.

Last week was a let down why? No Reyna. Why? Another dumb card. Why? Poor individual discipline. Why? Poor team discipline. That's on Robo. 100%.

We are struggling for a hard-nose holding CFMer. Ghazal is hot and cold, but no Laba, no Gershon. We have a young kid in camp, a taller, more polished version of a young Gershon Koffie in Davie Norman Jr. Robo has plenty of opportunities to slot him in all year, especially as it was evident early Felipe and Juarez weren't the answers. Blood him early, give him a run of a couple of games. Did he do it? Did he not have the balls to do it? yet he kept going back to Juarez even after he showed his discipline was going to be problematic. Not on the manager?

Sean Melvin is on our roster. Did you know that? 24 YO, 6'4", 200 lbs, and ready for prime time. yet, in the spell Marinovic was injured, Robo went instead with Rowe, who is listed at 6'1" (no chance, if he is, then so am I), listed at 185 lbs (that I believe), and the last time we saw him in BC Place before this season we pumped him (IIRC) for 5 goals, the night Toni Tchani made his debut against LA. Not once could Robo have started Melvin instead of Rowe? Honestly, if we have these young players, what fcuking good does it do to have them sit on the bench? There were opportunities to see what he has. Can't be worse than Rowe.

There are all sorts of issues like this that fall back on him that have caused an accumulative effect to contribute significantly to the failure of the season we now see.

It's long since time Robo has packed his sweater collection, hair clipper, and bag full of backhanded, condescending quips and fcuked off back over the water. Eat a dick, Robo.

Dude. I disagree with you. First for everything.

Ghazal just got called up to the Egyptian national team. A World Cup team with the likes of Salah on it. He has a resume. Starting a very young home grown talent over him right now would be crazy.
We lose with Norman Jr and everyone is asking why Felipe or an Egyptian National team player is on the bench. Double edge sword.

Ghazal is the 6, RT the 8 and Reyna is the 10.
Usually the 10 is the one we are asking to create and find the holes. We all know RT isn’t a creative midfield. But he still had many good forward passes that broke lines in the last game. You are right that we need an upgrade in the middle. But we don’t seem like we have the players right now. We have seen them all this season. And I believe he is starting his best disciplined 3.

I am sure Robo talked about discipline tons this season with this group. And the ones that didn’t listen are now stapled to the bench. What else can he do? Waston has been pretty good. Much less trouble this season. Does Robo get credit there?
Reyna took a dumb card. The player. That’s not on the coach.

Also, we really don’t know what goes on at training. Players body language. Who the leaders are etc etc. Perhaps that keeper looks great on paper. But doesn’t have the respect from certain players, or doesn’t have a loud enough voice for his back line. Perhaps got in to it with a key guy at a session and didn’t mix well with the squad initially. So many factors.

Robo is an x pro player and I believe knows the game pretty well. Only thing that is letting him down is these cheap latinos he keeps bringing in. But if you only have a budget for those types, well that is what your going to get.

If he had a budget to go for higher end disciplined professionals. Then we wouldn’t even be debating here. But he doesn’t have those guys. Do you honestly think there is more to squeeze out of these guys? Out of a 35 year old striker having his 2nd best year ever?
A 17 year old winger having a record breaking year?

Imagine if he goes with the local keeper and Young Norman. And we lose like we have, the average fan would go nuts that he is using guys with lesser rescumes etc. What is he doing etc etc?

The coach can lead the team to water but can’t make them drink it. He has them getting in the final 3rd. Great waves of possession. But we fail to capitalize with our possession and our keeper can’t make a big save. So we lose. That is footy.

Also, the parity in this league is crazy. Look at the standings. Is anyone consistent? Toronto has the players and money but look at their form. This league is built for parity.

If anything I think Robo needs to be rewarded for bringing Davies along perfectly and making a record breaking transfer out of it. People wanted Davies playing 90 when he was 15 and Robo knew how to pump the breaks and bring him along nicely. He did that right, no?

We simply just need better players in key spots.
Give us back Parker and we have 6-9 more points. That isn’t on Robo either. Again, ownership doesn’t spend the money and Parker walks. His replacement is benched for not producing.

Do you guys think another coach would have better results with this team?
Or could have done better with Davies etc?

All these new guys were a bust this year. Felipe. Juarez. That striker that had some chances but did fcuk all and then Hurtado jumped him in the depth chart.
Who was brought in, other than Kamara, that improved this team?

Reyna and Techera are just not high end consistent players. Been saying it all season. And seeing it all season.

What are you on about with this budget nonsense? Robinson does the shopping, and about ten pages back there was a fulsome discussion of what Whitecaps players are making this year and what they're worth... not one TTP poster thought, on balance, that the Caps were anywhere near getting value for money... that's on the guy who said "that's how much of my budget he'll cost? Yup, sold".... That's Robbo...

well, this should be interesting... for the cousin's birthday it's a Whitecap game and then an art show hosted by.... Brek Shea and RT... :banghead:

Brek Shea wasn't on the bench for Sunday's game at BC Place.
When asked why in the post game press conference, Robbo said "he's tired, with the new baby home".
He's getting paid almost 1 Million dollars Canadian to play for the Whitecaps.
Surely he can get his wife to see to the baby during the night, to allow him to prepare for his game, that provides them with a good living style?
It's not like it's his "Hobby". It's his job.
How many people have new babies home that have to go to work after a sleepless night?
Unbelievable.
Then to top it off, he's hosting an Art Show at 7pm on the same day the team that pays your wages has a game at 4pm.
You can't make this stuff up.

Not sure why this isn't getting more play in the local media? If it was the Canucks there would be a National Inquiry FFS. Or Maybe its become the expected from this club and they dont even bother anymore.

It's a start, but like Regs asks, why now? Why not just let the season play out and do it during the break? Bobbaduzzi not getting enough publicity for himself?

So Dalrymple takes over the bench in the interim, and now has to look over his shoulder for the remaining games. Who's next?
