Reading that just pisses me off. Next time through, turn your phone onto record, you never know when you may need to present.

And yes, I'd have a VERY hard time keeping my cool in that situation.

Thought about that. If I do it should be soon cause Not sure I want to bring my phone with me anymore. One look in my phone and history of posting on TTP im done!

@Regs will have to bail me out

Dude, not sure if your gripe was aimed at my post or not. Sometimes it's difficult to tell when you're on your emoji strike.

Obviously Trump is more than just the lunatic fringe. There are a lot of disenchanted low-key Republicans out there who abide by the traditional arguments about downsizing government and fiscal conservativism who are actually the mainstay of party support, and there were the swing voters who were Obamacrats or Berniecrats and couldn't bring themselves to support Hillary. I get that.

Akslop sorry to hear the shite that you and your daughter had to go through. Sadly this is nothing new for US border agents. I had a vintage car torn apart at Sumas on one trip 30+ years ago because they thought it might have a secret compartment in it. Insurance doesn't cover that. A friend that I was travelling with in 94 to the world cup final in LA was pulled out of our car and grilled for 5 hours because they thought he looked "Mexican" and didn't have a Canadian passport (he's Italian and was travelling on an Italian passport). My wife was detained because her pattern of travel was "suspicious" - she had offices in Seattle and San Francisco and was commuting there regularly every week.

There's no shortage of encounters with these two-bit dictators that have left bad memories at best and total resentment at worst.

Since I cross the border on a regular basis and also work with public safety, I am wise to all their tricks.

First, never get upset. Always keep cool, even if they accuse you of (fill in the blank). They will say things to get a rise out of you. Don't bite. Be calm and provide short direct answers.

Second, only answer the question asked: "Where are you going?". Answer: Bellingham. Don't volunteer up info that they are not asking as that leads to more questions (I am going to Bellingham to go shopping . . . that is not what they asked). If they joke with you, smile, be polite, but do not start in with them. They might seem friendly, but they can turn on a dime if you say anything they deem wrong.

Third: Be polite, make eye contact (take off sunglasses), turn off the radio, and for God's sake, do not be texting or on your phone. If it rings, don't even look at it. Have you documents organized, but only present your passport or enhanced DL. Do not give them receipts unless they ask for them.

Fourth, let the driver do the talking unless they specifically ask someone in the vehicle. All others in the vehicle should be quiet, but paying attention (no offing cell phones), no sunglasses, etc.

Ultimately, when driving over the border, they care about: Where are you from, where are you going, what are you bringing and leaving, purpose for trip. They also care about the standard guns, drugs concern.

One last piece of advice, as you are approaching the border, if you are a nervous type, breathe and relax. If you are nervous and anxious, you will come across that way.

Lastly, in case you haven't read this, when asked the question, have you ever used pot, there is only one answer. "No". Not even when you were in high school? "No. I have never tried it," no matter how many times they ask you this question, there is only one answer.

No, not at all. Very much agree with everything you wrote, I'm just sick and tired of it all. There is a lot of misinformation on the social media sites, about their government, about ours. Everything seems to be a spin to favor one hand or the other, never really simple, unbiased reporting from the center anymore.

I'm an open book, politically: center-right, closet socialist. So, many and most of the new American Federal Government's ideology certainly is not where I fall in.

Freddy: great advise and I definitely follow that in my trips. I've never had the experience Akslop had, and frankly, I don't know how I'd react. I'd like to think I'd be cool, but something tells me I wouldn't.

A single dad in a vehicle with a kid is a preferred target for profiling as well. Way back when he still fit in a car seat, I took Catorce Verde to the airport in Bellingham to pick up his mom from one of her many business trips and was stopped at Blaine and given the 3rd degree for over an hour about taking a child out of the country without his mother's permission - the part about picking her up at the airport wasn't acceptable to them and just didn't register until they confirmed that she was actually on the flight. Neither did a bored 2 year old. The frustrating thing was that I knew they were looking for triggers, but I didn't give them any.

You may have to be ready to prove custody as well as provide written permission for a child to travel with you outside the country.

One last thing. If in a car with 4 doors, lower your rear window as well as the driver's window before getting there. They will want to have a quick peek. If they have to ask you to lower it, they will have more of a look and get more engaged with you.

Here is a link. Watch it

http://dailycaller.com/2017/01/31/r...gh-slams-obamas-response-to-travel-ban-video/

the last 30+ years US foreign policy has been same. Just because Obama has celebrities on his side does not make him good president. He was watching baseball game in Cuba while attack in Paris happened and didnt want to aknowledge it. Nor did he rush out once he heard the news. At times he would come across as arrogant almost like he is better than you. Always disliked those type of kids at school, i remember.

The Daily Caller, not to be confused in any sense with an objective news source.

Considering that in those 30+ years, the US has had 2 Republican presidents in a row, then a Democrat, then another Republican, then a Democrat again, you're a bit confused. Their foreign policy has yoyo'd back and forth with each change in party ideology. The teapublicans of Bush Jr. are definitely not the same as the Reaganites were, and that was ostensibly within the same party.

We get that you didn't (and still don't) like Obama. That's blatantly obvious, along with your inferiority complex. Whether you agreed with him or not politically, the man was the best public speaker the US has elected since Reagan, and then Kennedy before that.
