I knew he'd ruptired his aorta, but I had no idea how it happened... insane!

His facebook group has been endless well wishes, but nobody actually posted what happened to cause it.

JBN,

I was told he was walking around for 10 days after the accident before the injury caused him to blackout. The placed is usually filled with cops, firefighters and paramedics so theywe're probably enroute anyways.

The Reuben and the Pastrami sandwiches @ the sports book at Mandalay Bay are outstanding and are great with a cold Dos Equis, potato salad and a dill pickle. Speaking of the sports book here, I saw Pete Rose in there this morning, and a bartender told me he is in the sports book here all the time...

There were actually tons of people lined up paying big money at the sports memorabilia shop outside Mandalay for his signature all week long last week.

This is Dude's Sandwich Review, not the spotlight on Pete Rose's gambling addiction. Try to be respectful. Think about what it'd be like if folks went into Sir M's Power Rankings and went off topic.

Oh wait, never mind.

BTW Sirem...you never gave the Sandwich a ranking, out of 5. FFS, do I have to do everything around here? Am I supposed to just go to the sports book at Mandalay Bay and order this sandwich blind? I don't even know if it is grilled, not grilled, hot pastrami, cold pastrami. What kind of pickle?

Sandwich reviewing is serious business.

Seriously.

Pete is always at field of dreams in the forum shops, sits there and the cheapest item is $75 or something, not worth it in my opinion, hell of a store though.

Back on topic so Dude doesn't get verklempt about his sandwich thread, I would be happy to rate the reuben at Mandalay sportsbook if I had something to compare it too. What is the rating for the reuben at Kaplan's for reference?

Never had the Ruben there, but either the Montreal, the hot Pastrami, or the Corned beef will leave you sweating for days. One of the best sandwich shops anywhere, right w/ Estrellas. 4.5/5 pickles.

I would rate the Kaplan's Reuben and other smoked meats as a 4.5/5. Starting with the rye bread - freshly made that day with a good sour rye flavor. Meat is always steamed to perfection, warm and moist (like other things I like so much). They use a good strong mustard. And, if the owner isn't there, they will put on mayonaise for me which I like. But, if he is around, he won't let you do that. Go for the extra meat option and this sandwich will last you all day. The kosher pickle is one of the best in town, rounding out a great sandwich served typically by a large and unattractive Russian lady.

Now that's a solid review, and so true. Take note Sirem, you need to step up your game to participate here.

Part of Kaplan's is the experience. Wait in line, eat w/ a stranger. You will not get a table to yourself, unless it's slow, which it never is. Maybe at about 3:00 there is empty space. It's also great people watching...great mixture of old school and new school. Gotta love the jewish community.

And yes, no mayo anywhere to be seen, and quite right.

Long time admirer of this thread so it seems fitting to post my first review after a cheeky visit to Kaplan's Deli.

I've been there numerous times in the past and usually go with the Corned Beef or Pastrami but decided to 'upgrade' at the suggestion by the ultra disgruntled Jewish lady who told me straight up that if you're coming to Kaplan's, only have a sandwich made by her. The look said it all and with me trying not to laugh, who was I to argue with her ??

I went with the Morley's Megamerger - a towering stack of Corned Beef, Pastrami with some Swiss Cheese thrown in for good measure (mostly to separate the two types of meat). $13.25.

Fcuking outstanding are the only words that can truly describe it. It is twice the size of a large corned beef or pastrami. The rye bread was baked to perfection - still warm & soft with a slight crunch of the crust. Corned beef & pastrami was hot and freshly sliced. It was garnished with half a pickle and a small 'cup' of coleslaw (vinegar based).

What else can be said really ?? The pictures say it all ........ coleslaw was okay but the sandwich was tremendous. The only down side is that I'll be tasting the fcuker for another 7 days. The upside is that I won't have to eat again for another 7 days.

4.65 / 5 toothpicks.

Damn you.

The wife brough me in a healthy chicken ceasar salad, and some other green things, but now I will have to sneak outta the office and get down to Estrellas for a Montreal. It is an outstanding Montreal smoked meat sandy, but sadly, they don't have a Morley on the menue.

I'll have to be satisfied w/ a Medium Montreal.

I broke down and went to Estrella's.

Only problem w/ Estrella's is he knows he's got you. The place is always packed, and it is the only place to get a genuine Montreal Smoked Meat anywhere in Langley.

I got myself the Extra Large. It was so freaking big, when I asked for saurkraut, she looked at me and said, "OK, but it'll have to be on the side, there is no way to hold it in on the XL".
