Ok, I just got home, and am looking of course for a little more humour on this thread. Because truth be told, if we are leaving it up to HOS to provide entertainment, we are all in a lot of trouble. Seriously.

In any event, Jugs (or not) thanks for your input from the VISL. I am just trying to sort all of this out in my own mind. Would it be fair to say that out of the Island, we can say the following: (?)

#1 UVic
#2 Vantreights
#3 Nanaimo
#4 Gorge?

Does that sound about right to everyone?

Thx WAB. Anyone from the Island who would like to comment?
Getting vital info from the island is brutal! Send the IHIT's special soccer division team to Victoria. Lobby for more funds and investigate the soccer landscape. The public is demanding results!

Sir M.

HOS and humour is like a mule with a spinning wheel; no one knows how he got it and dang if he knows what to do with it.
BTW, HOS, enough with the ferry ride and long trek out to Ambleside. It's old. Come up with some new material.:) See you on Sat...and bring your spinning wheel.

Staff as we speak are working feverishly on the pre BC's rankings. We have a few questions, however, for our Island friends. Is the VISL Masters season over or are there still games to play? Further, is there some sort of Masters Cup in the VISL (I see the Tony Grover Cup, Challenge Cup etc)? Is so, can someone advise as to the name of that cup?

Thank you in advance.

This is like pulling teeth.

OK, thanks for letting staff know about what happened to two of the four VISL teams who have qualified for the Provincial Cup tournment.

A straightforward question though:

How did Gorge FC and Vantreights do in the Tony Grover Cup? Staff are aware that they were knocked out before the final, but would respectfully like to know at what stage they were eliminated, and to whom.

Thanks very much, in advance.

Uvic are the class of the VISL. They tend to carry a lot of players, some of whom only come out to play during the cup run. This leads to some varied league results, but a very strong cup team.
Nanaimo are a very good squad, capable of moving the ball well, and are very well organized at the back. They were docked 9 points this year for a mix up with a players inter squad transfer. As a result, they are sitting lower in the standings than their actual play should reflect.
Vantreights are streaky. They can have great games and then s**t the bed.
Gorge are a team with a great mid field, but are let down time and again by their lack of quality finishing.
All four of these teams are quality. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see UVic and Nanaimo in the last four. Ranking them for the B.C's, I would have to say;
UVic
Nanaimo
Vantreights/Gorge (basiclly a toss up)

Hope this helps out with the rankings.

If it's anything like the VMSL, it goes:

Not that I would know, but a good headbutt is almost always a better strategy. The rankings should be posted by about 800 PM this eve.

A good headbutt is the best strategy sometimes.

You've been warned in advance MBE regarding the Rangers ranking.

Ok. Sorry for the bit of a hiatus, and also, apologies for the break in the publication of the latest edition of Sir M's Excellent Power Rankings. But thanks to some valuable input from our various VISL correspondents, some of which have a large level of credibility, it is time now for this year's VISL inclusive edition of:

Sir M's Excellent Power Rankings, 2008-2009.

1. Sapperton Rovers (VMSL. Last week's rank: 1). Sapperton finished #1 in the VMSL Prem Masters, and won the VMSL Masters A Cup. Prohibitive favourites. Home to DMU next.

2. Surrey FC Rangers (FVSL. Last week's rank: 2). SFC finished #3 in the FVSL, and won the FVSL Masters Cup. Away to West Van first round.

3. UVic Alumni. (VISL. Last week's rank: not ranked). UVic are the class of the VISL, and many staff argue that they should be #1. Sir M, however, for fear of getting butted by RF's big heed, place them third. They are the VISL Masters Cup Champs, BCs Champs, and are poised to finished first or second in the league. Home to the NSCL Vikings next.

4. Columbus FC (VMSL. Last week's rank: 4). Columbus finished second on 32 points in the VMSL, and went out in the semis to West Van. They are away to another VMSL side PCOV in the first round of the BCs.

5. West Van FC (VMSL. Last week's rank: 3). WVFC drop after their Cup final loss to Sapperton. They finished 4th in the VMSL Masters Premier Div on 29 points. They host SFC Rangers first round of the BCs. That should be an interesting game, staff report.

6. Delta Metro United (FVSL. Last week's rank: 5). DMU won the FVSL Masters and lost in the Cup final. They are away to Sapperton in the first round, and a win will skyrocket them up in these rankings.

7. RCIU (VMSL. Last week's rank: 6). RCIU finished third on 30 points in the VMSL Masters Premier division, and lost in the Cup semis. They are home to Coveside of the NSCL in the first round of the BCs.

8. Nanaimo United (VISL. Last week's rank: not ranked). Nanaimo are a good solid side, having finished 4th in the VISL. A certain not to be named VISL Sir M's Excellent Power Rankings correspondent is vouching for them:

Nanaimo are home to Mission in the first round.

9. West Side (VMSL. Last week's rank: 7). Sir M just likes Westside people, it is a bit of a personal weakness, I suppose. They finished 6th in the VMSL, and went out in the round of 16 in Cup play. They would be an an excellent dark horse bet, if we were to have say a bookie event for the BCs.

10. Mission Blues (FVSL. Last week's rank: 9). Mission finished second in the FVSL, and lost in the quarter finals in Cup play over in the Valley. They have to travel over to Nanaimo for their first game. Kind of like travelling to Newton, but with a longer boat ride.

11. PCOV (VMSL. Last week's rank: 8). PCOV entered the Cup and BCs this year. Fifth in the VMSL, and they went out in the semis. Home to Columbus in the first round of the BCs.

12. Coveside FC (NSCL. Last week's rank: 11). Coveside won the NSCL League Cup easily, and finished third in the league standings, but just one or two out of first spot. They have to travel out to Richmond for their first BCs game. That will not be pleasant.

13. Vantreights (VISL. Last week's rank: not ranked). Vantreights have had a good year, and could still win the VISL league title. They play Gorge from the VISL in the first round of the BCs.

14. Gorge FC (VISL. Last week's rank: not ranked). Gorge are also a good team, and they have drawn VISL rivals Vantreights in the first round. This side finished in third place in the VISL. This one should be a cracker.

15. Vikings (NSCL. Last week's rank: 12). The Vikings finished second in the NSCL. North Shore fans are sure hoping that they field a side to travel over to UVic this coming weekend.

16. Roma (NSCL. Last week's rank: 10). Roma, a team who finished #1 in the NSCL got beat up real bad in the Cup final on the North Shore. They are in for a test next against Westside.

So, there you go. Good luck to all teams, and may the best teams go forward to next week's 8 team edition of Sir M's Excellent Power Rankings.

Sir M.
