This sounds rather flippant, but I'll tell you what I think is wrong: The Bureaucracy.
I know a jury of citizenry found him not criminally responsible, but a judge and "the system" is what happens in cases like this. They inform the jury on what can and can't be considered when rendering a judgement.
You always will have academics and "doctors" that feed off of our socialistic left leaning policies and budgets giving testimony and being heard at these hearings and making policy that have one thing in mind: Self Justification.
Rulings like this, including 45 days of testing (WTF!?) means that the "machine" can continue feeding itself, gorging on our tax dollars, while us citizenry sit there for an hour or two in horror, aghast after reading an article on CTV, then go back to our ignorance is bliss mentality, working as a slave to the man to make our way as middle class morons in an entitled western democracy.
If we had elected judges these sorts of rulings might not come out as often in Canada, of course they have hyper-politicized everything in the states, including elected Police heads, senate, judges etc...and they have more of these WTF-Moments than we do, however there has to be a way to sentence these people accordingly, so they don't end up on the streets and we see "Justice", whatever that means, served in our society when issues like this crop up.
I'm not exactly the type of guy to start saying things like bringing back the death penalty is the answer, but having proper prison systems that are focused less on "rehabilitation" and more on keeping the public safe, including harsher laws and more appropriate minimum and no maximums on sentencing will go a long way to making our kids and property safer.
I don't claim to be some sort of troubleshooter to save the worlds problems, I just know that I'd never kill my kids because my wife left me...and if I did do something like that I'd certainly not expect the system to feel compassion for me.
He HAD to be fcuked up in the head yes, but our laws are screwed if this guy is found "not criminally responsible" he surely to fcuk was/is responsible, criminally or otherwise, and certainly poses further threat to society, and thus should be locked up and never see daylight again.
