My people (Slovakia) should go far this time around... it looks like most guys are healthy, even though Gaborik, Satan and Hossa are out vs the CZE... the difference is that this year we actually have some sort of goalies and that makes the team believe, they also want to be the underdog and not want to be spoken of.. hopefully Halak can stay hot through the tourney... can't wait for SVK:CZE... row 10 centre!!! GO SLOVAKIA GO!!!

kids got heart:rolleyes::D

yes indeed :) hell I'll most likely won't see another one of these in my life time... except for Slovakia in Brazil for the WC 2014 (bloody hell, is Africa expensive)

"Your people" should have marked Jagr last night.

Best game in the tourney so far!!!

Slovakia looks pretty good but they are not deep enough to contend

indeed, Jagr had a great game... I was surprised how well he played. Halak played well too. pretty entertaining game over all. I wish they set up the sections so you can have czechs on one side and slovaks on other, the fans didn't get into as much as usual because there were bits and pieces of the scattered.. hopefully we can get something done vs mother russia

SLOVENSKOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO somebody tell the pricks from TSN to shut up, I've never seen anyone so pro Russian and gotta love the way they stick their heads up Ovechkin's ass... I don't understand how this is an upset, I understand that Russian's are favorites but they never trashed us.. its always a close game

Was I at a different game?

Russia / Slovakia was terrible. Athmosphere was on fire in the building, but the actual game was ugly. Slovakia played a very effective neutral ice game. Clogged it up, and kept Ovie to the outside all night.

Have to say, penalties were the best part of the night, and the Slovaks in the crowd went nuts! So cool.

Bergeron is shite, we left Stamkos, Lecavalier, Spezza, Carter and Savard at home for this guy?

We also needed to bring Mike Green or Bouwmeester.

Picking players based on how they are performing at the moment isnt a good idea, playing in the NHL is one thing, playing for your country is something else. In the NHL you can play some average and shitty players night in, night out whereas here you are playing a tournament against the best players.

Realize now I posted my comments on last night in the wrong thread...

I was curious, and dead tired after walking a zillion kilometers yesterday morning and early aft downtown, so I counted to confirm my suspicions... Based on some stuff I used to do when coaching and selecting teams once I had just finished my playing career. (I have coached a few Bantam and Midget AAA Teams and select teams featuring some now NHL'ers and lots of guys still playing in the ECHL, AHL and overseas)

Thornton and Marleau (Two guys that have piled up points, vip awards etc but never have won anything....)

Thornton:
Missed oppotuinites to finish a check: 8
Lost Battles on boards for loose pucks: 10
Lost races to loose pucks: 6 (a high number for a centre!)
Turnovers: 7
Marleau:
Missed oppotuinites to finish a check: 9
Lost Battles on boards for loose pucks: 7
Lost races to loose pucks: 8
Turnovers: 4

To add:
Pronger was lost, two of the goals were a result of him losing his man on the back door of a play...
Brodeur: was simply trying too hard... he fought the puck all night long and erred too often in trying to play like Marty Turco does... he is good, but not that good with the puck. Luongo HAS to start the remainder of the games. Even though he hasn't won anything (How long did he play in FLA?!) The mental aspect of having him behind the team could prove to be a valuable spark.

I have never understood them bringing Thornton and Marleau. I would have rather seen them bring two of the three stars from the Bolts. LeCavalier and St. Louis have won cups and Stamkos is simply lighting it up...

Also the coaching has me shaking/scratching my head. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians... why didn't Babcock just bring his Wings Assistants? Why do we need 4 NHL Head coaches over analyzing everything.

The fact that Iginla and Crosby get limited ice time when the two of them and Nash are clearly our best high ipact forwards in favor of that "Shark Line" is mind boggling at best.

I stand corrected on Doughty, he played a hell of a game yesterday. He has been the best D man on the team, his turnover in the Swiss game not included. Weber, Seabrook, Keith, and Doughty have been WAY better than Niedermayer, Pronger, and Boyle.

They CAN turn it around, they are by no means down for the count, but some things need changing, chief among them being Thornton and Marleau getting scaled WAY back to jus second string PP duties if at all...

On the downside, last night was shocking. On the upside, I get to take in another Canada game. Lou to start tomorrow, for sure.

On the positive side, i think losing last night to the USA is what Canada may have needed to refocused or get focused. On top of that, they got the taste of losing an Olympic game on home soil, and is something they probably don't want to experience again. Anyways, here's hoping last night was the wake-up call.

But on the flipside, all the top teams are strong teams, it's definitely not a cake walk over the Top 5 anymore. Most if all those players play in the NHL. Interesting story, CNN had the US team's win over Canada saying it was reminiscent of the "Miracle on Ice". But the truth is the US has a good team and Miller playing awesome.

Lou to start for sure.
