RCIU 2 - Ladner 2

NOT pretty. Totally gutting. Up by a goal twice...once with minutes remaining in the game. Arguably created more chances, but at the end of the day, meaningless. Ref dished no less than 5/6 yellow cards in first half.

On to another week.

Akal 5 - GN 0

First half was a lot closer than 2nd half, as it was 0-0 at half. Second half saw Akal's forwards come to life, with one scoring a hat-trick, and the other finishing GN off with 2 great goals...

Looking forward to a strong 2nd half of the season, starting with next week's match against Bingers!

There's no way Sapperton will beat the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes have way more skill and are alot quicker.

Sapp 2 - AFC 1

Hard fought battle with Sapp being down 1 man for about 75 minutes. 1 buzz 5 minutes in on Jason Pierotti's chest-to-volley strike from the top of the 18 - WOW!
Rob Sing got his second yellow on a bad tackle in the centre of the park. 2nd half saw AFC tie it on a PK in the 65th min. But Alex Jappy over-powered the AFC goalie from 15 yards out with about 15 to go to secure the victory.
Garth had to make one great save - which he made look all too easy - off a free kick labeled for the top corner. Again, he just went over and grabbed it without even a sweat; no dive, nothing. He is by far the best keeper in this league; probably in the entire league.
Midway through the 2nd, some short, ugly, bald guy chops Kyle Phillips in the middle of the field as he is running without the ball. The porkchop was upset because he was justed checked off the ball for about the 10th time in the game. Brutal kick at Kyle's knees but the referee only gives the yellow because he said he didn't see it. If you are going to play agressive, then don't cry about your opponent being equally so. Basically he is a 2nd division hack that AFC doesn't need. They have some talented players with good speed and he is just a waste of a position.
I think Sapp looked ahead to the Hurricane game, saw AFC warm up with only 11 men and thought it was going to be a cake-walk, and were in for a tougher match than expected. AFC is good and will pose a threat the rest of the way.
The grass at QP was heavy but looked in good shape so it should be playable come next week.

Peg 6
Bingers 0

Bit of an emphatic statement there to close out the first half of the season for ICST Pegasus.

2 horse race now and Akal really needs some help at that.

Bombastic 1 - 0 Westside Rino

Will leave it for someone with a stronger stomach to provide the game report but lots of good scoring chances on both ends. Bombastic took one of theirs, Westside, not so much  Reffing was a tad on the shocking side as well. Likely didn't impact the result and I know it's a tough job in there but seems to be a recurring theme, at least in Div 1. Uphill battle for currently-underachieving Rino to get out of the basement.

My quick take as a neutral...

Agreeably a tough fought match between two good sides. Bombastic's goal game from a quick restart from about 60 yards played through for a breakaway finished nicely in the 70th minute. A few minutes later, they again had a similar breakaway between only their forward and the keeper and the keeper handled it out of the area and was given a straight red, so Westside played short the final few. The red was a shame as the keeper played a great match but by the rules, if you're last man and there's a deliberate handball, he had to go. A spirited, well-organized Bombastic side held on.

Westside obviously have some class players and talent on their side, individually probably better than Bombastic. That being said, their coaching staff was despicable, often instigating quarrels with whichever Bombastic player that was near the bench. Particularly their younger coach with the black coat and white hoodie was completely classless. After some early struggles, Bombastic seems to be finding their feet in Div 1.

Westside clubs have always been this way. Usually their supporters get involved as well and start berating players. It's really a pathetic bunch - the entire club that is.:D

Polonia 3 Romania 2 ,
Romania with the opener
Polonia with a shortage of players(11) played well behind the ball and took advantage of some sloppy defending by romania and scored 3 straight . Romania with one back on a broken play with about 10 left.
Polonia were the better side IMO

Re: [VMSL Div 1] November 2008/09 Results, Predictions, & Banter

Sapp 3 - Hurricanes 2

This was a great game. I'll cut to the case. After the Hurricanes' 2nd goal 5 minutes into the 2nd half on an absolute cracker of a top corner free kick, Sapp makes the substitutuion that turns the game around.

Having both Rob Sing and Colin Philips - 2 of Sapps' best players and both central miders - out of the line up, Sapp called up (or down) Mike Favaro from Masters. Sapp moves to a 3-man central mid with Mike absolutely controlling the game. He scores a header 5 minutes later off a cross. 5 minutes later Trevor Todd scores a header off another cross - carbon copy. 5 minutes after that, Jason Pierotti scores the goal of the game from 30 out into the top corner on a counter attack. Make no mistake, Mike orchestrated it all and gave Sapp the jump it needed. After that, Sapp tightened up and the Hurricanes didn't have a good chance until the final free kick of the game.

At 2 buzz it looked over - it could have been 4 within a few minutes, but Sapp persevered. For some reason, the Hurricanes broke down mentally in the back and allowed us to get back in the game. Give them credit, they love to go forward; and the do it really well, but inexperience killed them today. They should have locked up the back and waited for counters, instead they gave a good Sapp team hope and we took full advantage.

The pace was good, at times very, very fast. Individual skill was show cased all over the park - especially by the Hurricanes. But grit, determination, and a true team effort was the difference.

BTW
2 of the goals were phenomenal, 1 was superb, and the 2 headers were well executed.
