I think that it was 7-2 for the Tigers.
Good game for the Tigers. Not our night. Boys scored two nice goals. Keeper fractured elbow.
Report later tonight.

6-2 according to Whistle Blower.

Fractured elbow as well as the collarbone? Ouch.

Standing with the referees' gallery at mid-field, there were a few things that stood out:
  • Campo was short-handed enough that they started 3 CAT guys and burned their subs early.
  • there was a lot of noticeable rust showing on both sides as chances that should have been buried were squandered. Tigers blew at least 3-4 over the net and wasted a couple straight at the keeper; Chito wasted a gimmie the other way from the top of the box.
  • that was a very long 1st half. Consensus was that Mickey's big hand got stuck.
  • losing your goalkeeper at half-time sucks when you're already down on the scoreboard
  • Tigers owned the middle of the park. Campo were unable to shut down Ali, to their detriment
  • Regardless of what SmartCoach claims, Campo's 2nd goal was highlight reel material.
  • Dezza's a cheap cnut who still hasn't bought me a beer :p
  • Tigers had a fairly easy go of it in the 2nd half as Campo's back line looked too disheartened to put up a necessary amount of fight.
Nice to see Rino again, even without the hat.

With most of the Division tied up in Cup play, only two fixtures on the League docket, but both good ones:

Bingers v Rino's Tigers
Tigers have asserted themselves at the top of the league and promotion is looking more assured by the day. Their midweek thrashing of Campo ensured that no rust has set in after yet another long lay off. Bingers haven't played much football of late, but it's Rino's so they will be up for it. Smart money is on Rino's here, but Bingers are classic for throwing a wrench into the promotion race. I'll be bold and predict a draw in this one.

Metropolitan v South Delta
Well this really is it for Students. A loss and ostensibly it's all but over, but a win and they're 4 points back with five games to play. Still not great odds, but damned if it's not a chance and a helluva lot bigger chance than anybody would have thought likely at Christmas. Still though, there really haven't been any signs of real life from Metro this season, so it is hard to see where the drive and belief is going to come from now. South Delta are a good quality side and they'll know what this game means as well. I just can't see the university lads prying this one away.

I think hidden in the quote there is the result... 5-0 Rino's Tigers.

For those counting at home that's 17 goals for Tigers in the last 3 games.

Tigers 6 (1) - Campo Atletico 2 (1)
This was a peculiar match.

We were scheduled two games within 2 days during the weekday. A challenging situation for the working players and the ones who have little children. We also were aware that the risk of injury was high given the long tradition of treachery in the Rino's administration.

Given this, it was decided to prioritize the cup match and conserve energy and the players for the more important game that would take place two days later. Later on, this would proven to be the correct decision.

We called between four and five players from the CAT team. They did well and kept the game without goals. The Tigers had a bit more possession, but they did not create any meaningful threats. We had one chance with our counter-pressing.

The backline did well and the CAT forwards (who usually play as defenders) did their job given their limitations.
Once they got tired, we started to substitute them. This changed the game and Campo got the upper hand.

Within two minutes, one of our regular strikers dribbled past a defender and scored supper GOLAZO as he placed in the top left corner.

Everything seemed to be pointing to repeat of the previous game but two things happened towards the end of the first half. Some of their players started to hack our players and they scored a goal on a corner kick scramble against the run of the play.

In one of their careless interactions our keeper got some nasty fractures. He will be out of the game and work for at least 6 weeks. A regretful event given that the keeper was having an outstanding night.

It should have been a red card, but perhaps the referee was not able to read the intent to foul and injure (i.e. if you throw your body when the keeper in on the air and with the arms up you know dam well that the keeper is going to get injured on the contact or the landing). A bad call on the referee, who otherwise had a good game.

The injury of the keeper affected the morale of the players. We also had the problem of not having anyone with previous experience in the net on that night. Finally, one of the players confided that when he was a kid he used to be on the net too, so he put the gloves. We had to put back on defense one of the CAT players.

As expected, things did not turn out very well as they scored 3 goals within 10 minutes. Our backline got disorganized and confused with the new player, and the goalie despite his efforts had a few shortcomings.

Our players keep pushing despite all the adversities, and managed to score an even more fantastic goal.

This put the score 4-2, but our players started to get tired and finally conceded 2 more.

I think that we would have been able to beat the Tigers again on a regular night and with our full squad, but at the end we needed to prioritize. We did not play any pretty soccer, just boot it and hope for the best up front.
We needed to make sure that some players would not burn out for the incoming game and that others would avoid injury.

If our regular keeper would gotten injured, we would have lost for sure the game with Romania as he saved three penalties and two clear goals.
It was good to see our friend @trece verde.

So just to be clear, after all the consternation, handwringing, and direct accusations at the start of the season from @Soccer Coach, it is in fact Campo who have now admitted to throwing a potential league deciding game against Rino's Tigers.

fcuking hypocrite.
....someone is grumpy...
....why you can not take the game as your sweet Valentine's Gift....

We have already have proven that we can beat the Tigers and also your legitimate two teams when needed.
We want a shot at Coquitlam Metro Ford, and knew that Romania is good quality (as you know by the crushing that they gave to the Fury and Rino Vancouver).

This week the Tigers was not our priority.
