The tournament is two months away but many of the plans are starting to get finalized. In two weeks we will be holding the first Qualifying Tournament to fill the final spot in the Men's Open Division. I hope people get a chance to come out and see some early action. The following is the schedule for this tournament, which will be held on May 28th and May 30th at Hugh Boyd Park:

Game 1: Serbia vs Chile at 9:00pm - Friday
Game 2: Romania vs Iran at 9:00pm - Friday

Game 3: Winner of Game 1 vs Winner of Game 2 at 7:00pm - Sunday

One thing that we are looking for this year is some Editorial Content for our program. In the past we have had stories on prominent players that have contributed to the tournament or have participated in it. This year we are looking for stories or perspective from current or past players and coaches.

If you are interested in submitting an article, story or pictures please let me know. We have a deadline of early June to put it together and we have people (professional writers) that can help with some of the writing.

Cheers,
Lean

As these games are going to be single events, there will not be a beer garden, or bike storage;)

Maybe Lean you should rename the tournament to "I can play for any Nation Cup" fcuk me you have spanish players playing for Scotland , Irish players playing for Germany the only teams that don't have half the team from another nation are India, Fiji and Canada. The tournament has turned into a joke when it come to players playing for there Nationality or heritage. But i guess it is a Vancouver thing. Calgary Nations Cup has a 3 player import rule give it more a actual Nations Cup just like Richmonds Nations Cup back when i played more credibility.

I have to agree with Larsson here...it has become a veritable farce to call it the NATIONS cup when nationality is of no real importance. The irony is there is no need to be so lax with plenty of players from just about any nation that participates in this tourney.

Lean, response? Explanation? Anything???

I say cancel the most successful Amateur tournament around. Or let's all move to Calgary because they do EVERYTHING perfectly and EVERYTHING by the book. On top of that, they have the best coach on the planet.

Not the point Cappy. The point is that under its auspice of differentiating between ethnic origins to form teams the tournament, at present, fails miserably. It's a really easy fix: cap the number of "internationals" and have it be mandatory to prove you are eligible to play for such and such a country by virtue of your own birth or your parents, grandparents etc. Further, make your choice permanent with the ONE TIME option of changing countries just like with FIFA. And as for your latter point I must say it's tough to argue with the results...Calgary does a lot of things right as evidenced by the Callies :D

Berg and ThemoroninCalgary,

Time for you to read the rules of the tournament and talk to some people that are actually involved with organizing teams. If you had paid attention last year you would have noted that rosters were submitted from every team but I guess it is easier to complain than get some facts.

As for you waterboy, call me in 31 years and tell me how successful your copycat tournament is going. I seem to recall you were very interested in getting ideas from us to help get your event off the ground and now you would like to criticize from afar:mad:

We endeavor to improve the tournament every year and we think we have added something better for the last number of years. We have been able to expand the beer garden capacity when people complained, added assistance to every game, friday night games and expanding the women's division. Not bad concidering that only 7 or 8 people put on the whole tournament.

We appreciate comments and deal with the criticisms the best we can. If anyone has ideas to improve the event I would be pleased to sit down and have a pint to discuss them.

Cheers, Lean

We are still looking for some Editorial Comment for the program. The gentleman who normally looks after the development of our program does not have the opportunity due to family reasons this year and we are hoping to find some people to add to the content.

Maybe Regs you could create a TTP Comment page with some of the elequent posters, even signing them with their TTP handle!?!

E-L-O-Q-U-E-N-T :wa:

really? grammar jokes...reaching my friend.

Nations cup, next to the Provincial cup is the best tournament for amateur soccer we have. Beer gardens, competitiveness, organizing, ect. is very well done. Lean and co. are making attemps to stop the "nation" jumping so lets commend rather than bash.

Typical outside observer wanting to rain on someone elses parade....

Looking forward to another great Nations Cup weekend. :D

Lean, would you be paying for that pint if we were to sit down with you? :D

Agreed, Outkast.....nothing to bash with this tournament. It is the best one around. End of story. And I like the fact I can walk home from it once my other mode of transportation goes missing. Long live the Nations Cup.

That's all I wanted to hear... so long as the problem is addressed and rectified, I'm happy. The grammar joke was funny because he was looking for an editor and he made an error, nothing more but I guess that went over your head or something...

Add Spell Check REGS;)

Berg, now you see why we need editorial content. If you leave it up to me it will just be some rambling and shouting (just ask my kids)

Cappy if you get me into the beer garden during the tournament the pint is on me, I just don't seem to be able to make it into their while the tournament is on.

Who do people think will make it out of the Qualifying Tournament?
