Luch,

Cut & Paste is big news but bigger for me is that Apple is opening up the software a bit to allow developers to program apps to run in the background.

Tethering is cool too - hooking up your iphone to a laptop for wireless network access.

Tethering is a cool option, but the data co$t makes u$ing it prohibitive...:(

Sort of a last resort if you can't get a connection any other way. We've been doing this with our Crackberries for the last couple of years.

...and then the data bills from Rogers come in.:mad:

Yeah but I was thinking more of being able to tether and then do some quick online updates using a full-size keyboard :)

I think if you got in on that 6GB/$30 deal last summer, tethering for everyday use wouldn't be an issue. I didn't have the phone then so it wasn't an option for me. At the moment, I have 500MB and have yet to go over. Having said that, when the Slinbox App comes out, I may run into some issues.

Apps in the background will also be cool. Some good stuff coming.

Luch,

The Sling Mobile App has been released! I've shelled out the $30 for it but haven't been able to connect yet (even though I can from the computer).

Note it is Wi-Fi only.

Thanks for the heads up Regs.. I'm going to d/l it now... $30 is fair. I also noticed that the other "TV" apps are wifi only as well, like the TVU player.

Got home and it worked here on my home wireless... must be an issue with the network I connected with previously.

First impression: AWESOME!

Finally had some time to figure this out... switched back to the old Telus 2Wire from the "upgrade" piece of shite refurbished Siemens... and all if well. Haven't had a lot of time to play with it yet, but, so far... sweet.

A shame about the WiFi limits, but hopefully that will change.

If you "jailbreak" your phone, you can stream over 3G.

I still can't stream over an external wifi network but it works magic in the backyard with a pint while watching the rugrats :D

On another note, are you not supposed to get a text message when you use up 75% and 100% of your airtime? I just got a huge bill - most because of a call that I answered at 6:59PM... unlimited evenings kicks in at 7:00PM

I've thought about the "jailbreak" but I've also heard there could be complications when trying to download the upcoming new OS. I'll stand pat for now. As for an external wifi, I haven't had the chance to try it out, next time I'm in my local coffee shop, I'll give it a go. Our building at work is supposed to be wifi next year. If so.... :D.

As for those text when approaching limits, I though they were only for the data end. I've had a couple... but never for airtime.

Just talked to Fido... apparently you have to 'request' the free service for getting a text message concerning limits

New iPhone news - 3.0 software coming and is free for current iphone users, I think the date is June 17th or 19th. The other big announcement is a new iPhone version that is faster, includes a better camera WITH video recording capabilities, voice recognition, a phone locator and a couple of other bells and whistles.

No pricing yet from Rogers but supposedly it will be available in Canada June 19th.

Maybe a new title for this thread should be: Palm Pre vs. iPhone.

While the new iPhone software and hardware are exciting, the Pre has some pretty cool features like system wide search and the ability to have multiple apps open at the same time...we'll see if developers get some applicaitons for it.

So what is the going price for the Pre? Is it even out yet? Which Canadian company is offering it?

I've got the Blackberry curve and love it. My wife hates it as it takes away from "our" time together.
