The key to the last post was....... . Let's just see if Celtic can get there first. If so, I will have a couple of fundraisers in order to afford the trip/ticket. :)

maybe you should just pass that $10 on to me after our Boomtown Rats bet....

After the most recent round of Euro matches, Uefa has updated their 5 year and 1 year co-efficient standings.

For the 5 year, The Forces of Darkness are currently ranked 49th and The Hoops are 42nd.

For the 1 year, Celtic are ranked 12th in Europe while Darth Vader's 11 are tied with St Johnstone at 75th.

This may seem superstitious but every team Celtic has faced in their Uefa cup run has a "V" in their name.

So I was a little worried when I realized that after Boavista (God willing) we run out of "V"s. Porto and Lazio, until I remembered that it's S.S. Lazio.

Societa SportiVa Lazio.

Superstious Italians (redundant?) beware.

Victorious Celtic it is then.

Celtic is being touted as the favourite to win it now as a result of their last three matches and the opposition beaten therein.

Certainly they should get by Boavista if you would draw comparison to their recent opponents.

My opinion personally is that Lazio are the only ones that stand a chance now.
This is great for Scottish football.

Updated odds from Willhill

Lazio 6/4 2.50

Celtic 7/4 2.75

Porto 7/2 4.50

Boavista 6/1 7.00

I'm surprised that Celtic is ahead of Porto in the odds, even if Porto is playing Lazio....Porto is running away with the Portuguese league this year. I would actually favour Porto over Lazio........

At least I still have a chance at a bet I made in November.......

The Porto comment is valid Captain.
Any team running away with the league should have better rankings/odds.
Which is why I'm surprised with Jinky's post on our single year UEFA ranking. ;)

Well done on the bet, balls to the wall sonno.
Ca-ching.
I'm very happy for you.
This way you can pay out our bet at season's end.

To be honest big man I got it wrong.

They are in 78th place not 75th.

Ps, if you want better odds on Celtic, try going to an American or Italian online betting service.

Piss oV. :D
78th can't be right. :(

I hate to say it but you're right.
If we had done better, Scotland would have prospered.

Again, well done Celtic.

No worries,

apparently Celtic can single handedly improve Scotland's co-efficient by winning the Uefa Cup. To the tune of 3 Champions League places and 3 Uefa Cup spots.

Scotland In Line For Six Euro Places If Celtic Win UEFA Cup

STEPHEN HALLIDAY

SCOTTISH football could have six European places to be played for next season if Celtic take their remarkable UEFA Cup run all the way to a successful conclusion in Seville on 21 May.

By defeating Liverpool at Anfield on Thursday night to secure a semi-final showdown with old foes Boavista of Portugal next month, Celtic have already guaranteed that next season’s Scottish champions will gain automatic entry to the group stages of the Champions League for the first time.

The win on Merseyside elevated Scotland to ninth spot in the UEFA co-efficient table which decides the allocation of places in both the Champions League and UEFA Cup.

Should Celtic go on to win the second European trophy in their history, they could further advance Scotland to eighth place in the table, which would double the country’s participation in the UEFA Cup for season 2004-05 to four clubs.

Eighth position is currently held by Holland, some four co-efficent points ahead of Scotland. The Dutch also have one club left in Europe this season with Ajax facing AC Milan in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

If the Amsterdam club are eliminated at that stage, and Celtic beat Boavista then triumph in Seville, Scotland could yet snatch two UEFA Cup slots from Holland.

As it stands, Martin O’Neill’s men have already ensured a massive added incentive for next season’s domestic championship race.

Although Scotland will have two teams in next season’s Champions League, one will enter at the second qualifying round stage and the other in the third qualifying round.

In 2004-05, however, Scotland’s champions will be guaranteed a place in the lucrative group stages of club football’s premier tournament. In addition, the Premierleague runners-up will only have to negotiate one qualifying round.

If Celtic can continue to enjoy lengthy runs in Europe, meanwhile, and are supported by similar feats from Rangers and improved performances by our two UEFA Cup representatives next season, a place in the elite top six of the co-efficient table is not an insurmountable goal.

By reaching that standard, Scotland would get three places in the Champions League, to give the annual race for third place in the Premierleague behind the Old Firm a whole new meaning altogether.

CURRENT CO-EFFICIENT RANKINGS

1, Spain 74.539; 2, Italy 59.168; 3, England 58.118; 4, Germany 51.132; 5, France 43.468; 6, Greece 36.782; 7, Portugal 33.833; 8, Holland 33.332; 9, SCOTLAND 29.375; 10, Turkey 28.991; 11, Belgium 28.500; 12,Czech Rep 27.950; 13, Switzerland 26.250; 14, Ukraine 24.583; 15, Israel 23.999; 16, Austria 23.375; 17, Poland 21.625; 18, Russia 21.041; 19, Serbia19.831; 20, Norway 19.575.
